The Man behind the Twilight (Medium Spoilers)

November 19th, 2006 at 3:21 am by The Missing Link

[EDIT: Fixed spelling. Thanks doublehelix.]

So you want to know who’s responsible for the Twilight Realm, that thing that’s wracking so much havoc upon Hyrule? Here’s a big shocker… it’s not Ganondorf… not unless Ganondorf has another name he’s going by these days. No, it seems there’s a new gunslinger in town, and we’re all going to have dates with him very soon.

If that’s all you want to know, I advise you to leave this post now. Want to know a little story? Continue reading.

We first see the person who is responsible for the Twilight Realm during a flashback rather early in the game. For a good while, the only name that we have for this nefarious baddie is “The King of Twilight,” a rather obvious name for the main villain of this game, but that’s not enough to really know anything about him. With a getup that resembles something of a disguise… and a name that really is more of a title… well, who knows who he is?

But around the 9½-hour mark, Midna comes clean with you and starts to reveal a little bit more of what she knows. After all, as a creator of the Twilight Realm, she should be in the know about this guy, yes? Perhaps getting past two dungeons and getting two very important items for her is enough for Midna to repay the favour in kind and trust you just a little bit.

So she drops a name. And it’s not one we’ve heard of before.

Zant.

At this point in the game, this is about all we have. We don’t know who Zant really is or what he’s really trying to do in Hyrule. We won’t know what exactly the Twilight Realm is nor why he covered Hyrule in the junk. We won’t even know his favourite colour! All we do know is that, as much as Midna likes the Twilight, she doesn’t like Zand too well. Not that Midna really is fond of Zelda, but in a choice between the best of “two evils,” well… her pick is obvious. Or rather, not really that obvious; we don’t know why she and Zant had a falling out, just that they did.

And now you know what I know.

    The name’s Zant, actually.
And at one point of the game he mentiones a ‘god’ that granted him his dark powers. This could very well be a reference to good ol’Ganny.

    Zand’s favorite color is… PURPLE!!!

grrr 3 weeks to go, living in the UK sucks, I WANT THE GAME!!!!!

I saw the game in stores, but I couldn’t find a single Wii on the shelves this morning :( And I searched three stores.

Ya know, since he said that a “god” gave him his dark powers, Ganon is probably still the guy behind the mask that’s behind the mask (get it?). Wouldn’t it be cool if at some point in the game Zant decides that he wants everything for himself and Ganon just slaughters him or, Ganon is using him and when he doesn’t need him any more he just anniolates the guy? Or maybe both things are true? I think the people that are hoping for a lesser baddie to get killed by Ganon have a good chance of getting there wish.

Is it Zand or Zant the article shows both?

My guess is that this Zant character is something like Aghanim in LTTP.

    I read it was Zanto o.o;

I got the Wii, TP, and a TP guide book after a two hour line. I know everything now! Muhahahhahaha! I love spoilers! The game is really complicated from what I read and played. I played it through most of the day, so far I’m half way through the Forest Temple and has 3 heart pieces!

Wouldn’t it be crazy if Zant was our beloved Link from OoT!!! Just a crazy thought I had. After all it does show link when it tells the tale of the sorcerers the gods sealed away in the twilight realm.

I’m gonna guess that Zant and her were an item, then broke up because Zant wanted Zelda, so Midna tried to get back at him and he turned her into a cat dwarf thing and now She’s using Link to make Zant jealous, but then Zelda and Link find out that they like eacother and run away and then Zant and Minda both get angry and….yeah. I Totaly have no idea what i’m talking about.

*lol* Musica, your expecting a little Romance in the game? Well, it would be a welcome change for the series, since this game is T for Teen, and it would be understandable (plus, I’m not a romantic kind of person, so often seeing people go goo-goo eyed over others make me laugh out loud :D )

After seeing that Ganondorf pic (mentioned on another post) I think Ganondorf is another pawn of Zant’s. The picture is at Land of the Legend, not Hyrule.net (for some reason, they’re seperate websites) beware, the pic is a spoiler! This Zant has a lot of respect from the Twilight monsters, since when we seen him from the trailer, he had two of those monsters (first seen in the ‘05 trailer, I think) wear special masks, and they were walking ahead of him, as if he is feared. He must’ve took Midna’s powers and used them for himself, so this should be a fun game (TML might finish first, as most of us want the GCN version, a few got the Wii and the Wii version, and others can’t get the game for one reason or another)

I’m guessing it wasn’t that Link became Zant, but rather it just demonstrated their powers of being able to copy other’s apperances. Also, those sorcerers look suspiciously like a certain Shadow Link… anyone guessing an explanation in tp about Link’s doppelganger(s)?
