Nintendo Tour Hints at Wii Release Date?

August 6th, 2006 at 1:50 am by The Missing Link

Nintendo of America has just launched their website for the fourth annual Nintendo Fusion Tour. For those of you who have never attended these events (myself included), apparently they’re venues to bring new age music and gaming (particularly of the Nintendo variety) together for reasonably big shindigs across the United States. The musical aspects of the tour are being provided by bands that I have never even heard of before. (At my “venerable” age of 25, I am no longer remotely “hip” or “with it”.) The gaming aspect will be provided by Nintendo, of course.

However, even if you’re not a fan of whatever “noise” or “racket” the bands will be playing, there is something you may want to note in Nintendo’s official press release.

The tour, headlined by emo-rock band Hawthorne Heights and produced by Live Nation, will visit some 40 cities nationwide between Sept. 27 and Nov. 11. In addition to live music, each venue will showcase the hot-selling Nintendo DS Lite and provide a sneak peek of Nintendo’s upcoming console, Wii.

Yes, you heard it: Wii. With the exception of fighting amongst tens or hundreds of fans at the local game store to get your hands on a test version of the Wii, this will be your best chance to play (after you fight hundreds or thousands of people at the concert for the opportunity, of course). Imagine being able to test drive what will likely be the final versions of Super Mario Galaxies, Twilight Princess, Red Steel, among many others. (You know you want to.) You may not have been the first one ever to play it, but you’ll still be ahead of the launch date…

…Or will you? Notice when the tour ends: November 11. Somehow, my spider-senses are tingling here about this. It’s hard for the Wii to launch prior to November 11… yet still have this be a sneak peak. At the same time, according to Sony Corp., the PS3 will be launching precisely on November 11, and I cannot believe Nintendo would be foolhardy enough to come out after Sony releases their next-gen system. Of course, Nintendo is Nintendo, and they very easily could just say that, “Eh, we got most of the cities before the launch date; that’s good enough for us,” but that would force the last cities on the tour to draw the proverbial short straw. (Sorry Illinois… Iowa… Wisconsin… nearly all the Midwest…)

At any rate, I’ve drawn a handy-dandy map for you to show you where the tour will be stopping, along with roughly when you’ll be seeing Ninty’s tour buses in your area. (All I can say is that, for the first time in my life, it’s good to be living in Ohio.)

(Thanks, Halan.)

It is speculation, but safe speculation. I am rather eager to preoder a Wii being as the for the pice of a PS3 you could get a Wii, another controller and two games. Well all we need now is an announcement of the official type.

I despise every band on that list save for Emery, but the Wii makes up for it. Woo! Myrtle Beach, here I come!

You lucky American *Navies*, I HATE YOU ALL, lol.

Excellent, I live close enough to Indianapolis that going to this seems reasonable.

    CHECK THIS OUT!!!

Yes! Finally! An event that is close to me! And my idiotic friend said that Wii would be launched September 3rd. . . fat chance!

I’ll just wait until they have the demos in stores. The only band in that lineup that I like is Relient K. I’m not going to pay money to have my ears start bleeding from the main act.

ive heard of this on the radio (duh) but I wasnt sure if it was really nintendo. nintendo FUSION tour hmm, should have figured that one out sooner :P .

Thats very cool cartoonsmart but that guy really should have checked his grammar.

Uh, Cartoonsmart, that thing that you linked to is made up. First of all, Link is already trained how to fight with a sword from a master swordsman in the village, and he stays human at night, he doesn’t transform into a wolf at night like that thing said. How does the guy who wrote it know what happens in the beginning, the intro screen, what happens inside the Twilight Realm, and that the castle that you are taken to is a “dungeon” in itself? In a Inside Zelda, it said that at the beginning of the game, it would be very sad, and he wanted to make the players feel that, so I don’t think all you’re going to do is wake up and start playing. And that spellbinder thing when Link gets pulled into the Twilight Realm just doesn’t sound right. Yeah, this is made up, sorry if that makes you mad, but there is no way that guy could’ve known all of that, and besides, he even got some stuff wrong.

Whoo, Denver is on the list! I may just check this out!

Relient K is the only good one on the list. I won’t go. Actually I couldn’t go anyway. Too far to St.Paul. Especially with gas at $3.00+ a gal.

Just because everyone thinks we’re all hicks doesn’t mean we aren’t video game fanatics!!!!!!! GRRR…

hmm im I might go to the one in atlanta

I’m from the midwest and I’m not a hick, but I agree with Josephina, myself and some of my bestfriends are all hardcore gamers. Now if you’ll excuse me, the NASCAR Brickyard 400 race is comin’ on, and I gotta gather up granny and the cousins in my Pick em up truck. Yee ha!
I kid, I kid, but I may stop off at the one in Indy, I would give anything to play the Wii

Oh, man. I hope it doesn’t hit Des Moines on a school day. :( My sister lives there. I fully agree with Josephina. Why do people have to stereotype Midwesterns as hicks? I grew up with very intelligent parents. Many of us here had to suffer in a drought throughout the month of July. Where’s the love? :(

Uhm… I said sorry to you guys in the Midwest because you’re the last stops on the Fusion Tour. That and I’m very well aware that Kentucky and Tennessee (which I’ve visited QUITE frequently) are more hickish than places like Illinois and Wisconsin. ;)

[TML: (a) Stay on topic. (b) That side topic has been resolved.]

I that’s exactly what I was thinking but I bought the tickets anyway. To me $30 is not to much to here Relient K play and play the Wii,

So we have a release date. Finally my plan for world domination can continue muhahahahahahahahaha… sorry my alternate personality just took over for a second*_* Um yea so thats pretty cool that we got a release date. And finally its America first! sorry Robert-UK lol

You guys think you’ve got it bad being last on the tour? Try living where I am! I’d kill for half the things you guys get! Stop whining! xDDDD

Seriously though…that would be so awesome to go to. I wouldn’t care if the bands were crap. You Amercians are spoilt! I can’t even find local Nintendo-based publications! The closest thing I can find is CUBE (which is pretty good, mind you).

Nuff of the self-pity. I really hope the Wii comes out around November 11, or else I’ll die. Better be out before December is all I have to say. >D

We’re not that lucky. The catch is that we have to put up with Hawthorne Heights & their terrible, terrible music.

I will be following the tour. Not physically, but remotely, I’m guessing Gamespot will have something. And to make it seem authentic I’ll play RK at the same time.

I hope that the Nintendo music dosent include the DK Rap *shudder*, lol.

I personally think Relient K should be the main act.

    srry my comp screwed up
    (the multi posts)

Skywalker is a broken record player LOL. Seriously though, a nintendo music tour with the Wii is kinda wierd. Oh well it’ll generate interest if fans of the bands go for the bands and not the Wii then test it and love it.

Ah… I feel quite stupid now that I realized by looking at TML’s convenient map that it is coming to a few spots. But I think that Nintendo is still being stereotypical with the whole Midwest-being-last-because-they’re-all-farm-boy-hicks deal. But then again, if we wern’t last on the list of tour dates, the people that would be would say that Nintendo is being stereotypical. It’s really a lose-lose situation with them.

Never heard of these bands, but maybe ill go… if it weren’t 300 miles away!!!! why can’t they come to Seattle, the bigger city, not Spokane!

There’s a spot in my state, near where I live :D I’m not interested to go, but I wonder what it will be like at this tour. Does anyone know who’s going to be on this tour?

No but i found an interestting website: ww.hyrulianguardian.blogspot.com

Woohoo! You got my message! I got this in an email and I thought it would be nice to pass along the info to the community. Being that the closest one of these to me is a 3 hour drive through heavy I’ll-write-you-a-speeding-ticket-for-sneezing areas, I won’t be going. I did notice that they are making a stop in New Orleans, a nice way to bring more money into that city.

That’ the show I’m goin to.(the one in New Orleans)

Meh, I’ll just wait for the release.

    HECK. YES.
They will be in St. Paul, awesome! (I live in Minneapolis)
I hope I can go to this. I am so amp’d now. X3
Which is probably a bad thing considering a sprained my ankle…

Curses… Darn youi Canada, you never get the good gigs…!
