Hopping on the Moviewagon

July 10th, 2006 at 1:28 am by The Missing Link

Five years ago, if you’d told me that sites like Google Video and YouTube would be around, I would have called you insane. Back then, the seeming terabytes (technically: tebibytes) of storage needed to store and host that stuff was the stuff of legend. Now, with the continued development of the Internet, now it’s the stuff of reality.

And now, with the advent of such sites, there are many people who are taking The Legend of Zelda and making it The Reality of Zelda.

We’ve already seen the absolutely hilarious (yet sometimes serious) Legend of Link movie. We’ve seen the trailer for the well-filmed (and definitely serious) Hero of Time film to be released later this year. But these are just the major players in this fledgling genre that is fanmovies. I scoured Google Video tonight to see what else might be out there, and while I’m sure I didn’t find them all, here are a few things you might enjoy taking a peek at.

  • Parody of Time [link]
This video is about a high school student who was obsessed about The Legend of Zelda. (Alright, which one of you is this movie really about? C’mon ‘fess up!) Due to an unfortunate accidence involving a Cucco chicken, he has lost all his memories… except those of his time playing the game… and so he becomes Link, Hero of High School Time! This one is so funny, it really hurts. Seriously, you guys.
  • Dancing Triforce [link]
An entirely different project, this one is done with computer animation. There are three completely unrelated (sort of) videos that include Zelda characters. It’s complete with crazy inside jokes, bizarre gags, impressive visuals, a pig-face, and a dancing Triforce (not available in most stores). It appears to be something of a project for maybe a college computer graphics course, although I could be mistaken. (No FAQ exists for the site that I found.) If nothing else, watch it for the animation; it’s stellar.
  • Legend of Vernon [link 1] [link 2]
There are several of these types on YouTube and Google Video, but this was one of the more interesting ones. (Feel free to search for the tens of others just like this.) Link is played by a guy named Vernon (hence the title), and pretty much he goes around a college campus making an absolute fool of himself on tape. (The guy has no shame, but I have to commend him on his gutsiness! I mean… I don’t think I’d be caught dead on campus with a Link cost–oh wait, never mind. Halloween 1999. Shoot.) Anyways, it isn’t the funniest of the clips, but it is chock full of inside jokes you’re sure to love.
  • Wind Waker / Orinoco Flow [link]
This project isn’t done with a video camera nor a computer graphics studio. This is a fan-music video where they take scenes from a game and then put it to some popular song on the radio. This one pretty much relates the entire story of Wind Waker set to the music of “Orinoco Flow” by Enya. Definitely a neat treat if you’re into that sort of thing.
  • Majora’s Mask / A View to a Kill [link]
This is similar to Wind Waker / Orinoco Flow only that it’s scenes from Majora’s Mask set to the theme music from the Bond movie View to a Kill by Duran Duran. Of all the fan-music videos I’ve seen, this one is far my favourite.

And I know that this one is not a fanmovie whatsoever, but I figured, since we’re on the subject of videos, I might as well introduce to those of you who haven’t seen it the video of the best Zelda commercial ever made. May be old, but it’s still that good.

None of these are as good as Legend of Link, but It’s darn near impossible to beat a movie like that. It’s better than even official movies in terms of quality. I thought the first movie Parody of Time was a nice runner up to Legend of Link. I’m not really sure about the last two, because they seemed a bit weak. I didn’t watch the second, and third ones though. They might be good, especially the third one, over the second one.

I’ll get around to watching them all, but you forgot Zelda Barrow’s “The Hero of Hyrule.” It can be found on Ice’s Zelda Central at the cinema. Giving what she had to use (a digital camera and two actors), just look at the plot of the movie. It really is good.

I already saw “The Legend of Vernon.” It’s hilarious. XD

I’ve seen all except for The Legend of Vernon, and Dancing Triforce. The Legend of Vernon, I have already seen, yet I’ll figure out Dancing Triforce later. A Parody in Time is funny, almost as good as LoL, but still good. It just doesn’t have that LoZ feel to it, but it does have a crazy man feel to it. I think that the TWW/Orinoco Flow video is great, they match up with each other, same for MM/View to a Kill video, just one question, what’s an orinoco?

Every single one of them is completely insane… I LOVE THEM, Lol.

Wow, such spirit! The Mayor of Linkville would be proud.

Wait, LoV Part Two, I have to see that! Maybe one of us can make a movie, in Linkville, question is, whose willing to make one and whose the closest to Linkville? No one answered my question earlier, what is orinoco?

this is what I found in the dictionary HH: Usage: geographical name river 1600 miles (2575 kilometers) Venezuela flowing from Brazilian border to Colombia border & thence into the Atlantic through wide delta.

A View to a Kill hit the spot. I love that music video.

Dancing Triforce is actually The Light of Courage, and it is a trilogy made by some fans as a hoax involving a Zelda fan who believed he was making a Zelda Movie with DIC’s backing.

Parody of Time and Legend of Vernan was almost as funney as LOL! But dancing Triforce SUCKED like *NAVI*! The two music videos almost matched the games perfectly! :D

Shoot. You beat me to it. :(

Anyway, I loved the Wind Waker music video. And I forgot to mention that there’s a music video for Queen’s “We are the Champions.” Sorry it’s not an actual link (I don’t really feel like figuring it out), but here’s the url: http://www.freeonlinegames.com/play/3371.html. You can copy and paste, right?

The first one was okay until it degenerated into lame LegendaryFrog parodies.

I watched a little bit of Legend Of Link but I had to stop. I didn,t see anything funny so I guess I didn,t go that far in the movie.

Trust me, the best of the funny parts are after the beginning credits in the first LoL, just skip the credits after the cinematic part (I think they did well with that part.) And thanks for the info on the Orinoco, the song still goes well with TWW scenes.

Really, that commercial’s getting old. It’s not even funny anymore. Besides, I’ve already seen about half of those up there.

    No more movies. Please.

Orinoco hmmmm, where have I heard that before?

I thought legend of vernon was pretty funny

That View to a Kill video is excellent, but I don’t think anything will ever top this OoT video to Escaflowne’s “Dance of Curse”.

    Highly recommended.

I highly doubt it, but what you can do is visit the Library and laugh quietly (unless there is no one else but the librarian) their computers should be on broadband.

The Legend of Link movie looks horrible, it’s going to turn out like that Mario Bros. movie…

I am a psychic, and what I know, your either not a Zelda fan, you just became a Zelda fan, or you haven’t watched past the beginning credits of the movie. If it is 2/3, I get four-million Force Gems :D People tend not to do that, so they skip out the whole movie, I find the movie hilarious. I finally found out where the written lyrics of the Zelda Theme came from -_-

hmm im interested now, were did they come from?

I thought they came from the movie, did someone else write them? Time to rate the movies I’ve seen.
LoL: PG-13, for fake violence, crude humor, and romantic scenes.
PoT: PG-13, for violence, animal cruelty (poor Cucco) and a crazy man in the “happy place”
LoV: PG, for angry Link and Link abuse.

    Ok, I think I’m done :D
